This summer we planted our first garden at our current house. The gardening went by the wayside after we became pregnant with Kate several years ago. This summer we decided to get our fingers dirty again and the girls each had a small plot in the large garden to plant whatever they wanted. Each day was a new observation and once their produce was ready to be eaten we couldn't have had two prouder little gardeners!
Kate was so proud of her peas! She was preparing a "salad" to eat with dinner.
Anna was another proud gardener and happy with her pea produce.
The girls each grew peas (Anna vine peas & Kate bush peas) and red zebra tomatoes. Anna additionally chose to grow bird house gourds and Kate bush beans. They were very successful gardeners!
I grew this...but it didn't taste good. Overall, a very successful garden that was grown organically. Many cucumbers were pickled, salsa canned, watermelons eaten, pesto frozen, relishes made and enough fall decor to wrap around the house! We're looking forward to next year!

Just think how good some fresh chicken would taste with those vegetables! Hand plucked by Sara and her little helpers!
